Color Theory and Emotional Effects

1. Color would be the quality of an object or substance with respect to light reflected by the object, usually determined visually by measurement of hue, saturation, and brightness of the reflected light. These qualities tend to have an effect on our emotions every day. It’s the reasoning behind why we tend to situate colors to certain events. How color effects emotions would be in the painting by Van Gogh where he describes the place where he was staying. In the video it was stated that he used abnormal colors in the painting to show how he hated the place.

2. The theoretical aspect of color that fascinates me would be how the artist used the color red to show hatred for the subject that they are portraying. The color video showed two artists who used red to display how they hated several different locations.

3. In the color video the biggest impact in regards to color would be how June’s emotions were affected by the slightest colors being off.  In example, when she was painting the boat and it came out too blue she started getting frustrated. She ended up wiping the blue off and mixing black with it until she gained the proper color composition of her liking. It was surprising that a hue of a certain color would make someone react the way she did it shows that different colors spark different emotions in a person.

4. In the feelings video what made an impact on me with color and how it affected emotions would be how Jacques-Louis David used colors and facial expression to show their views on what was going on in the world around them. David painted with bright colors and his paintings were of triumph and people trying to accomplish something. It was interesting that his painting, Death of Marat, helped cause a change in civilization and sway the people of France to a certain mindset.
